Himos is making good progress in its responsibility and enviromental work.
We are currently building the Ekokompassi enviromental system, which is a certificate owned by the Finnish Nature Conservation Association. The certificate enables access to the Sustainable Travel Finland program granted by Visit Finland and known in international tourism, and Himos has been accepted into the program.
The ski center’s staff is committed to continuous environmental work and responsible operations, and its development is constantly monitored. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Himos’ carbon footprint has been calculated and it makes environmental activities even more systematic and measurable. Our goal is to be a carbon-neutral ski center by 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the responsibility plan, we develop business and customer and staff satisfaction from the point of view of ecological, cultural, social and financial responsibility. In terms of responsibility, it is important to raise awareness for both tourists and staff. We hope that customers will also consider responsibility issues when they visit us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enviromental responsibility in Himos!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  • We are part of a national Energy Efficiency Agreement.<\/strong> In 2008 we joined MARA’s (the Finnish Hospitality Associoation MaRa) national energy efficiency agreement. Companies join the Energy Efficiency Agreement are commited to improve their energy efficiency, in accodrance with the actions and targets presented in the action plan.<\/li>
  • Surplus heat from snowmaking<\/strong>. We heat our facilities using the surplus heat from snowmaking.<\/li>
  • Effective snowmaking<\/strong>. We have invested in energy-saving snowmaking when we can make the most out of the optimal conditions.<\/li>
  • Slope landscaping<\/strong>. We do continuous landscaping which effficiently helps to reduce the amount of snowmaking.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    • Energy-saving slope grooming equipment. <\/strong>We use enviromentally friendly grooming equipment and snowmobiles. We also train our personnel on energy-efficient driving techniques.<\/li>
    • Frozen food. <\/strong>In our restaurants we use high quality, domestic frozen food to minimize waste of food and efficient food making.<\/li>
    • Energy waste. <\/strong>Energy waste from our business is recycled in the waste management company at Tampere that produces heating and electricity.<\/li>
    • Carbon skiing print. <\/strong>You can reach Himos easily and fast from Southern Finland’s largest cities, only a few hour drive. Fuel and energy is safed when you don\u00b4t have to drive further. Also most of our employees are local less than 15 km from ski resort.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      How You can make a difference<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Recycling<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      All our customers can participate in the common enviromental work through their own actions. We would like to remind all our customers to recycle whenever possible during their visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In the slope area you will find sortings bins for combustible waste and bottles and cans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In the caravan areas you will find a variety of sorting points, where you can sort combustible waste, plastic, glass, metal, cardboard, biowaste, bottles and cans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Transportation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      You can find charging points for electric cars in the parkin glot on the western slopes, the charging points are located right at the foot of the western slopes.
      Sustainable travel is not only trendy but also extremely important in the long term. The Perille.fi service promotes ecological choices in travel by significantly facilitating the use of public transport, for example by finding the best routes. The travel search shows the amount of emissions for each travel option, which makes it easier to make a more ecological choice.

      Ekokompassi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      For us, enviromental responsibility means concrete anctions in our own operations. We are committed to conserving natural resources and increasing our positive impact on the enviroment. As proof of this, Himos-Yhti\u00f6t has been awarded the Eco Compass certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Himos Ski Resort has been granted the right to use the STF label as its valuable and long-term work towards sustainable tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
