Himos-Yhtiöt Ltd. a private family business, founded in 1984 by Juhani Ojala and Päivi Kuokkanen. The operation started in the Northern Slope Area on Boxing Day in 1984, when the Ski School slope was opened. The official opening ceremony was organized on December 29th, and the festive opening slide was performed by the Finnish legend of downhill skiing, Kalevi ”Häkä” Häkkinen. Since then, years have passed and the Himos slopes have been conquered by masses. Since our early days we have opened new slopes and expanded the old ones and built multiple new lifts.

When entering 2014 we celebrated our 30th anniversary. To honour the milestone we published our history in writing: the Himottu vuori is narration of the years filled with skiing in Himos. The book is available in the Ski Shop and our online shop during winter season.

Today, we are happy to engage also the next generation in developing and operating Himos. The business operations are managed by Juhani Ojala’s two children, Elsi and Jouni Ojala. Also Juhani’s and Päivi’s son Joona Ojala is getting to know the business along with his studies.

What is best for the customer has always been our main principle when developing Himos. The positive feedback we have had has encouraged us further. Despite the whimsical winter conditions we have seen in recent years, Himos is still ranked among the top ski resorts in market study reports. Measured by lift turnover, Himos ranks fourth in size among the Finnish ski resorts. Himos has been awarded the title of Ski Resort of the Year three times, in 1995, 2001 and 2022.

We employ 19 persons year-round and in winter time we have approximately 120 seasonal employees.
